Open Question: UC Personal Statement...is mine any good?

----->Describe the world you come from - for example, your family, community, or school - and tell us how your world has shaped your dreams and aspirations. English teachers preach that every aspect of life has to do with literature. Most teenagers can relate any situation to a song. We walk around with camera-enabled cell phones to capture things we find beautiful – our friends, scenic views, etc. Pictures are hung up in restaurants, hotels, and even restrooms, because they are meant to be admired. In essence, life is art. And I am the painter. My world is color. What is a world without people? Without my family, teachers, and church leaders, I would have no painting. They define my world. These people are the colors that are delicately brushed across my canvas. They complete my paintings. Without color, paintings wouldn’t really be paintings, would they? My parents started with nothing, and they want me to end with everything. I have a brother, one year older than myself, who simply does not care for school. My parents have two children though – so since one has already failed them, it’s up to me to earn a respectable name for the family. Oh, and my mother needs someone to brag about to her pompous doctor’s-wives-friends. Of course, I don’t work hard to impress the pretentious women my mother calls her friends. I work hard because I want to complete my masterpiece. My AP Calculus teacher is retiring at 31. Why? He wants to devote his life to mission work, teaching morals, and enriching the lives of those who need enrichment. He taught me that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. So if you don’t like my masterpiece, then that doesn’t mean someone else won’t. My AP Chemistry teacher is at school for 12 hours most days advising Mock Trial and Science Club, and tutoring students taking her rigorous course. Did I mention she has a family? From her, I learned dedication. I’m never going to stop working on my masterpiece. My church elders are the ones who know everything about me – from my toes to my face. They guide me spiritually and have taught me to have faith that however my final masterpiece turns out, it will be as perfect as can be. My whole life, I’ve been trying to make everything as perfect as possible – to surpass my own expectations. My world has taught me that even though I know exactly what I want my paintings to look like – it doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll turn out that way. One of the greatest pieces of knowledge I’ve gained from my world is that life brings what it will. I can’t try to make a story of my life, I just have to live it, and the story will make itself. I’ve always dreamed big: I want to be a pediatric specialist, a restaurant owner, and a bestselling author. My dreams have everything to do with my world, and what people have taught me. And as for my aspirations? Well, I aspire to be an inspiration. I have a basic idea of what I want my story to look like, and if it’s not perfect, I won’t fret. My one criteria however, is that my masterpiece inspires. That is, after all, the most important component of a piece of artwork. I know it needs some editing, and I need to add a few points in there. Do you have any suggestions?

Resolved Question: How many of you are tired of people trying to dictate what we eat, how we eat?

Food Nazis! We have them. . . . . . Everywhere I turn there is someone that is trying to pass laws on trans fat, and that are even having cities OUTLAW trans fat. That's more tax dollars down the toilet! The next thing you know their gonna want people arrested for eating Twinkies out in public! Then you walk into a restaurant here in California, how many of you actually read the nutrition guides that some places set out? I don't! The bottom line is this; I WILL EAT WHAT I WANT, HOW MUCH I WANT, WHEN EVER I WANT! I WILL ALSO DRINK WHAT I WANT TO! I WILL ALSO SMOKE CIGAR TOO! (I hope to God that I will run into someone that is in favor of legalizing marijuana and yet wants to pass stricter laws, against tobacco use. . . I will light up in front of them just to piss them off!) If all of that kills me, then I will die a happy man! I WILL HAVE MY CAKE AND EAT IT TOO! It is all in self control! Good ol' will power! I do watch what I eat, and the most I will smoke a cigar is maybe three time a week. It is just the thought that people wanting the government to tell me how I should eat, let alone live my daily life

Resolved Question: How the hell do u sell advertisement to Restaurants?

I own a restaurant menu guide that is distributed to all the hotels and bedrooms in the city. The magazine is phenomenal, the quality is grade A, the cities tourist department helped me create multiple pages of it. The price is extremely low. I have been in sales for 8 years and have made a tone of $$ selling. But now I created this magazine that is distributed to 10K hotel bedrooms in the city and only $160 per month for the restaurants.. and NO ONE is saying yes. It's like such a no brainer.. I am baffled. Is there something I don't know?

Resolved Question: Web Design Contract for a restaurant, can you help?

So, my brother referred me to a web design job for the restaurant he works at. Its a newer steak house, only 3 locations in the country. The currently do have a website but it sucks. Thats why my brother mentioned me to his boss. He knows i can do it. Well of course i can make his boss a great flash website with all the information he needs, easy to navigate through, and at a great low rate. This will be the first installment into my professional portfolio and i really want it to count. the only problem with making a website is i am oblivious about paperwork. Im sure the owner is the type who wants documentation, no under the table sort of thing. Im not sure what to do. Legally binding things with a contract seems like a bit too much. For some reason a work agreement seems more appropriate for the whole deal. Basically i was hoping to just walk in with a presentation, having a printed agreement of some sort so that on paper, both him and i know what kind of work is to be done, and for him to pay half up front and half later on. Can anyone on answers guide me on what i aught to do, maybe even tips for the agreement document. maybe ive got the wrong idea or am just being lazy. HELP! thanks mike

Resolved Question: When Traveling Abroad Do You Use Guidebooks...?

To find the best hotels, restaurants, clubs, attractions, ect...or do you talk to the locals to find all the best places. I personaly like to avoid guide books. They can be helpful when you're looking for attractions, but I think the best way to experience another country is to talk to the locals to see what they have to say. The guidebooks always talk about the fancy restaurants that tourists go to, but they dont mention the little family run place right next door which is even better.

Resolved Question: Interesting encounters as a tourist in a foreign country or w/ tourists? Ever have any of these issues arise?

Seeking to help [Britains] sometimes snarky citizens offer a warmer welcome, the tourism bureau has updated its advice for anyone likely to work with travellers arriving from overseas — from hotel staff to taxi drivers. New guidelines from VisitBritain ahead of the 2012 London Olympics warn that: - Canadians tend to be offended when they are when mistaken for Americans. - Hold off from hugging an Indian, the guide advises, and don't be alarmed if the French are rude. -Don't go around asking Brazilians personal questions and never be bossy with visitors from the Middle East. "VisitBritain said research it had conducted found tourists believe Britons are honest and efficient — but not the most pleasant. Britain is ranked 14th out of 50 in the Anholt-GfK Roper Nation Brands Index on the quality of welcome offered to visitors, the tourism agency said. The frank etiquette tips were written by agency staff about their own native countries. - Polish tourists are likely to be hurt by stereotypes that imply they drink excessively, while the - - French are notoriously picky in restaurants." eta: [I know that's true and what makes them the most disliked tourists in all of Europe - maybe the whole world. They don't want to eat anything, and they are notorious for being rude. I would like to add "rip off" artist (some, obviously not all). If you're a tourist they will change you a much higher cab fare than they will one of their own. Let's hope they have meters in their cabs now.] More: - U.K. workers are told to brush off common Argentine jokes about a person's clothing or weight. - Belgians take offense at people snapping their fingers. - Australians are fond of coarse language. - Japanese people consider prolonged eye contact impolite and smile to express a range of emotions — not simply to show happiness. Tourism workers are ADVISED TO SHOW EXTRA PATIENCE when dealing with: *Indians: impatient, demanding, brusque. Indians also don't like being touched by strangers and may be suspicious about the quality of British food, the guide said, without noting the latter might be a common concern. *United Arab Emirates: Travellers from the Middle East are likely to be demanding with staff and "are not used to being told what they can't do," the guide warns. *Guests from China and Hong Kong may find winking or pointing with an index finger rude, while "mentioning failure, poverty or death risks offense," the advice claims. Chinese visitors may be unimpressed by landmarks just a few hundred years old, tourism staff are told. *Tourism workers are advised against discussing poverty, immigration, earthquakes or the Mexican-American war with visitors from Mexico And Americans? They can appear "informal to the point of being very direct or even rude" and won't ever hesitate about complaining, the guide says. So what do you think? Comments? I forgot one that I had read about elswhere: don't ask Middle Eastern men about how wives. This is a serious social faux pas. If you must make conversation, its best to ask about male children. Reminds me of an old joke. What's the definition of heaven? A French cook, an English cop, and a German mechanic. What's the definition of hell? A French mechanic, a German cop and an English cook. Rachel, I'm not saying each and every French person is rude. I also had good experiences while there. But on the whole... brace yourself. They'll never stop moaning about the food, wait for it. The "hugging Indians" thing is pretty inane, I do sooo agree. I suggest this "Information Packet" is in need of a makeover.

Resolved Question: whats so bad about pimps?

I know a pimp personally I’m not a ho or anything but he explained what he was for and ect.... Now most girls who have "sex" for money really are moms who are not doing well with there jobs or there man left them and they need to feed there kids or anything and other need to pay for college so there doing that.. or stripping.... women don't really want to do this but they do to get by or a until another opportunity comes along, and yes some women are druggies and need the money for that’s but that’s stereotyping. Why sex well truthfully sex sells its not an addiction or anything its natural in a persons body to want to have sex. Now how many husbands cheat or boyfriends cheat because there not getting any.... or theres a sexier girl around...or couples buy porn to up there sexual life. Or a women goes to the store for clothes and buys things that makes her look great. Sex is everywhere even in kids movies the prince finds his princess and duh have sex (they don’t show that part of course) but the second movie they have a kid but when he finds her doesn’t the camera show her up and down and him almost drooling. Also the bar or restaurants, hooters for example will hire hot girls but them in booty shorts and tiny shirts because guys will keep coming back to eat there to flirt, stare, anything. Or the pretty girl gets a job as an assistant because the boss wants something to look at. Now I understand there’s gorilla pimps who force there girls or beat threaten them but that’s stereotyping all pimps.. Like stereotyping that * all black people love chicken and kool-aid * all Mexicans are illegal * all Asians are smart * women are better parents * all Jamaicans smoke weed * all gay people have aids * all Jewish people are greedy * all Arabs are terrorists * all liberal people are gay * all Irish people are drunks * all democrats are responsible * all republican people don’t like the poor * all Germans are Nazi * all Mormons are perfect But really the pimp game girls choose there pimps if they want to leave one for another they can. The pimps don’t have the say so unless there gorilla pimps which are the one who beat there women but a lot of men do that to there wife’s and girlfriends. Also women do that to there men. The reason there is pimps is really for girls who cant handle money right. Now pimps get all profit so things can be taken care of instead of blown off on unnecessary things. Pimps give there girls condoms so really most prostitutes are safer on having sex then other girls that will have sex with a guy thinking she’s in love with him because he says so. There for she’s not using any protection and getting std and getting pregnant and ect. A pimp is more or less a guide for women who needs it like I said a women picks her pimp, and can leave when she wants to. Alot of pimps end up marring there main girl in the end that stayed with them and stayed. theres even married couples that the whife is a prostitut because they need money i dont see anything differnt from a prositute from a porn star except most prostitutes use condoms....

Resolved Question: I feel like my life is boring.... I want to do more, and accomplish more but...?

I think I've always been different from the molds of my other friends. They're your typical, high school, party hard, screw girls, and do crazy stuff. But I'm not really like that to be honest... I'm starting to become more like them, but I don't want to... I want to be a culinary artist, I also want to do some type of art based painting/drawing possibly in the future. I also want to experience what true art is, and study philosophies of life/quotes. My life long dream would be to marry a beautiful girl inside/out, play poker semi-professionally, own my own restaurants or a few, experience the volumes of amazing art, and also write poetry. I don't know, it just feels as if life is boring. I can't go to school since I have no money, so my only choice for right now since I'm only 18 is to work for a whole year as a waiter. Then hopefully accquire enough cash to go into school with some help from student loans. I don't know, I know I need money so I'm going to work hard and gain experience, so I can hopefully achieve my dreams... But what I can do in the meantime if I don't have anything else that's guiding me into going into life seriously..? EDIT: The reason this is in friends section, it's cause my friends have influenced me alot... and well I'm starting to feel different from them... I feel as if I need different friends, and friends where I can be myself, and not have to worry about tarnishing what we once had.

Resolved Question: Could these be symptoms of depression? or anything else? Thanks for any help!!?

1. drastic change in sleep schedule (started during school, instead of going to sleep at 10:30/11:00, I went to bed no earlier than 1:30, and woke up at 5:45/6:00......every night) 2. strange eating habits. - would eat a lot one week, then have no appetite the next week, eating much less 3. weight loss/weight gain. I'm 5'4"ish...about a year ago, before all this stuff, I weighed about 110/112 or so. Since then, without sports/exercise/dieting, I've hit 102/103. My weight fluctuates a lot. In one week I can lose 2 or 3 pounds. It just goes back and forth now. 4. I often have trouble breathing...well...I feel like I can't get a "full breath" 5. Sometimes I have trouble remembering things...like what I did just two days ago. 6. I have no interest in things that used to interest me (which makes me feel sad) ...things just like doing things outside/swimming, etc... 7. Sometimes I'll be sarcastic/have an attitude with my family, and then I feel really badly :( 8. I have uncontrollable/disturbing thoughts. I'll think about a family member getting harmed or something, and then I just can't stop. 9. Lately I've been feeling super irritable. The weirdest things just set me off. I keep it to myself because I know it's irrational, but certain things drive me crazy. 10. Self-pity 11. Extreme sensitivity. example..During random movie previews, i'll start tearing up and feel really sad. 12. Urges to cry. This rarely happens, but there have been times where I just break down. There's usually a reason, but it still comes on pretty strong. 13. Constant stress. I'm always stressed about something...even if I don't know what that something is. I don't think I've had a stress free day in ages. 14. Extreme paranoia. I always feel like someone is watching me. I have to have all doors locked, my blinds are closed at night. When I walk into a restaurant, well...any public place...I feel like all eyes are on me and I feel really paranoid. 15. I don't like going to sleep anymore :/ ...I've been having a lot of trouble sleeping lately. I've tried tv, no tv, calming music, guided meditation...The other night it took me 4 hours to fall asleep. I was trying the guided meditation method, and during it, I started breathing really heavily/rapidly, then started freaking out...it felt like some kind of attack. It felt like suffocation? that's how I'd describe it. I asked my mom, and she and several of her family members used to suffer from panic/anxiety attacks... 16. During school, my work ethic decreased immensely. I stopped studying, I started homework at 9, or the day it was due, just major procrastination. I just didn't care at all. My grades were still B's/A's in AP/honors classes, but I definitely could have done better. 17. I have a low self-confidence. There are only a few things that I do in life that I feel confident about. 18. "Hopelessness" ... I feel like I won't get into the college I want to get into...I have no idea what career path I want to choose. I just feel like I'll go nowhere =/ 19. While I AM happy, I still feel like there is something missing. I constantly have this little feeling deep down that I'm not truly happy. I'll have good days, I love my family, friends, boyfriend more than anything, but still...I feel this constant sense of loneliness. To sum it up, I just haven't felt the same happiness in months that I used to feel. Any ideas as to what all of these symptoms point to, if anything? Thanks so much!! *also, I have a serious lack of energy. randomly. I can sleep in, getting a full 9 hours of sleep or so, but within hours I'm exhausted, falling asleep, getting unexplained headaches..

Resolved Question: Which not-so-expencive things should one do in London?

Hello! I'm going to England in two weeks with my family (brother 16, me 18 and our parents, so it should suit to our ages, too) and we're planning to go to London on one or two days. Now I'm trying to find out how we could spend our time there. As a family, we of course do not have that much money and thus the activities should be rather cheap. (eg if we spend 5 pounds per person on something then that's in total already 20 pounds so that would more or less be the "limit", which can of course be varied if there are some exeptionally great things which are a bit more expensive..) We've been looking in a travel guide already but things there were rather expensive. So do you have anything to recommend us? It could also be good restaurants which are cheaper or maybe there's a part of london where you can visit smaller shops which sell rather uncommon things? (like some artist district or something where you can buy funny things which you don't get in normal shops...here, too, those things should be more or less cheap of course, I'm not looking for expensive designer things ;) ) It would also nice if you could tell us about the travel possibilities. We are planning to go to London by bus or train, are there any special tickets with which travelling to, in, and back from London would be as cheap as possilble (maybe a group ticket or something like that?) We will be staying in Bean by the way, (east of London, probably in the greenbelt or so) if you know anythings interesting to do there or close to Bean that would be great ;) Just mention anything interesting you can think of^^ Thanks a lot already!

Resolved Question: It's been 2 years and my mom is still in denial!?

I'm 15 and I've been a vegetarian for a little over 2 years now. My mom is still in denial though. At first she acted like everything was okay, but she's told me that she was nice about it because she thought it was a phase. Obviously it wasn't, and now 2 years later she's trying to guide me back to eating meat. At restaurants I'll ask the waiter if ____ has meat in it, ect. One time the waiter said "No but it has lard if you're vegetarian". I was just about to change my order since I don't eat lard, and my mom comes in and says "Well she's not a real vegetarian she just doesn't like the taste of meat". It really made me angry. My aunt just moved back in with us and we're trying to go on a diet. She told me we could eat salmon and vegetables, and I told her how I would just eat the vegetables then. She acted all confused, and said "What? You're not eating fish?". When I went vegetarian I gave up ALL meat, including fish, she knows that. When my aunt came back she told my aunt (who lived with us when I went vegetarian 2 years ago) "well she doesn't want to eat fish anymore" - like I've been eating fish this whole time, which I haven't, and she knows that. I haven't had ANY type of meat since June 10th 2008. Sorry I know this is kind of long and I tend to ramble on and on, but there are SO many examples I could use to show how immature she is being in this situation. How do I handle this? I'm never eating meat for the rest of my life, and actually plan to raise my children vegetarian (depending on my future husband). How do I get this through her head NOW that this is who I am?

Resolved Question: How do you plan a trip to Italy on a budget?

My mom and I are trying to go to Italy next year in mid June for two weeks (if possible) to Italy and Greece for a few days. Our ideal budget is $5,000 tops. My mom is a senior and I'm going to be eighteen so I know that we can get some discounts on flights for senior and student tickets. We're not really into tour guiding, or eating at fancy restaurants and staying in luxurious hotels. We just kind of want to travel around the cities and meet people and enjoy the culture. How can we do this on a budget? I know that going in June is tourist season, but summer is the only time we are both free.

Resolved Question: Psychiatric Service Dog or ESA dog help please....?

Can someone help me? I'm really confused if I can get a psychiatric dog or not ....... I found this article A Psychiatric Service Dog is a dog that helps its handler, who has a mental (psychiatric) disability. Examples of mental disabilities that may sometimes qualify a person for a Service Dog include, but are not limited to: Major Depressive Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Autism, Anxiety Disorder, and Schizophrenia. Like all other types of service dogs, a Psychiatric Service Dog helps its handler mitigate his disability through trained work and tasks, including, but not limited to: picking up/retrieving objects or aiding with mobility when the handler is dizzy from medication or has psychosomatic (physical) symptoms (i.e. pain, leaden paralysis, severe lethargy, etc.) waking the handler if the handler sleeps through alarms or cannot get himself out of bed alerting to and/or responding to episodes (i.e. mood changes, panic attacks, oncoming anxiety, etc.) reminding the handler to take medication if the handler cannot remember on his own or with the use of an alarm alerting to and/or distracting the handler from repetitive and obsessive thoughts or behaviors (such as those brought on by Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder) as well as many other tasks directly related to the specific handler's disability. A Psychiatric Service Dogs (PSDs) may be of any size and of any breed suited for public work. Many are owner-trained (trained by the person who will become the dog's handler, with or without the help of a professional trainer), but, increasingly, service dog training programs are recognizing the need for dogs to help individuals with psychiatric disabilities. Some Psychiatric Service Dog handlers may choose to refer to their dogs as Alert or Medical Response Dogs, depending on what the dog does for them. In the USA, handlers of PSDs are entitled to the same rights and protections afforded to handlers of other types of service dogs, such as Guide Dogs, Hearing Dogs, and Mobility Dogs, under federal laws. Like all other types of Service Dogs (SDs), Psychiatric Service Dogs are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of the disabled person. They have also been trained to act discretely in public places, such as laying quietly under the table in a restaurant, keeping tightly to the handler's side and not sniffing anything on the shelves of grocery stores, and ignoring other people and animals. ________________________________________________ I was told by someone on yahoo answers I could not get one of these dogs to try to get an ESA dog.... Voting Question: Can you identify this movie?

A while ago now (a whole bunch of years) we were watching a film on TV late one night. The film was mostly based in space - and looked almost exactly like Hitch-hikers Guide To the Galaxy, except it is not the old BBC 6 episode show, nor the new 2005 movie. The movie involved a time travelling couch/sofa and a few characters. (Sorry my memory is vague) In order to escape from some sort of an attack to their ship (I think their ship, or even a building on a planet somewhere) they jump on this couch and time travel somewhere. In one of the scenes they land on a cricket field (such as what happens in the Douglas Adams book) There is one scene with a few guys sitting in the back of a flying taxi cab playing one of those games where you clap hands while singing a song (as stereotypically, little girls do at school) The movie was pretty funny - which makes me believe it's some sort of Hitch-hickers knock off, and it was also in a foreign language! At the end of it went something like ... the couch malfunctioned, or could do only one last trip, so one of the characters sacrificed himself to stay behind - this was a sad moment, however when the others time traveled back to their time - he was waiting there for them. Somehow having mad his way back. (This is once again similar to Marvin waiting for a few million years for the rest of the crew when they show up at the Milaways restaurant.) but I'm pretty sure this character wasn't a robot. I don't know. More than that I can't really remember. Any leads at all would be helpful! Thanks everyone. Even if you think you are wrong, still throw a name of a movie at me (or for all I know it could even have been a TV series or something.) I can look them all up to see if it is what I am looking for. Thanks everyone!

Resolved Question: Anyone got any advice for traveling to Paris in August 2010?

Hi guys, I'm off to Paris next week, the hotel and eurostar are sorted and I wondered if anyone has any advice they can offer on the following: Getting around the city Saving money or discounts Dress codes in restaurants (shoes, casual shoes or trainers for men?) Resturants that are nice and not overly expensive Places to visit + places to avoid Any hidden art galleries, shops or music cafe's that are good? Any art/music related places we might miss Any good books or travel guides on Paris Thanks everyone!!! Hi, thanks for the information, if anyone else would like to add anything please do. We're staying in the 17th district in a luxury boutique hotel which I'm sure will be nice but am concerned about the area as its not central. Is it nice? I've heard there are two famous restaurants there and the Arc De'Triomphe is very close by. Oh sorry, I meant is 17th district safe??? I read on that link some of the districts should be avoided, especially at night! :-(

Resolved Question: How to write a really good Official Guide?

I am writing a story. The story takes place in a fictional world and there are hundreds of places to explore and tons of different characters to write about. I want to write a separate, sort of spin-off book about it. An official guide book, sort of like a big travelers brochure. I only have a few things to write about, though. I dont know what to include. So far, I have the separate bios of all of my characters, the menu in their favorite restaurant, and a look inside everyone's homes. What other essential things am I missing? Just name anything you would include.

Resolved Question: Why do people Lie and say the Economy is Bad?

I'm sorry, but I find it hard to believe that the United States is suffering and that there are no jobs. Let me put this in bullet points: 1) Where I work, I am a tour guide and everyone on my time has to deal with fake speeches about "early releases due to budget cuts" and "no health care available". Meanwhile, my supervisors and managers all enjoy health benefits, paid vacation and sick time and leisure work. In my department there are literally over 20 managers who over see just a little over 60 people. Judging by this, our economy is doing just fine. There seems to be plenty of money to go around, just to the people THEY prefer to hand it out to. (I work in a museum) 2) Turned on the TV lately? Every single reality show I watch showcases rich celebrities, flaunting their money and buying million dollar sports cars while crying over why their wedding won't work because the $10,000 flower arrangements are the wrong color. Bad economy? More like great economy with bad taste. 3) Every time I go downtown I see nothing but rich doctors and lawyers strutting in their nice suits, and women who don't work grazing in fancy restaurants reminiscing about what next mega million vacation they're going to embark on. Bad economy? Tell it to the gullible folk. So let's be honest. I think what is going on is the government is trying to make America "Think" there aren't jobs out there, and that our economy sucks. In reality, we seem to be doing just fine. Thoughts? OK I'm not looking for smarmy remarks. I'm looking for real answers! Come on! I never said we weren't in debt. I said look at how the jobs are still coming! I didn't mean just celebrities! Come on! Look at all those rich white girls on shows like "My Fair Wedding" and "Bridezillas", or even better- the Vh1 shows that have the girls who have all the nice outfits.

Resolved Question: Areas close to public transport, shops & entertainment in Palma?

Hi there I'm planning on booking a holiday for my wedding anniversary, and was thinking about going to Majorca. We're not planning on driving, so I was wondering if someone could suggest an area in Palma that's close to public transport, shops and entertainment such as cinema's and restaurants? We don't want to pay lots of money for a lovely hotel but in an inconvenient location. I appreciate that Palma is most probably a pretty big place and has loads of places which might be suitable, but even if you just give me guides on certain streets to look at would be of great help! Thank you xx

Resolved Question: Paris visit-We have planned a tour to Paris in the year end.(2 adults/ 2kids aged below 10)?

But we have note opted to travel with any guide or tour operator. We wish to travel independently. How many days is actually required to cover the attraction of Paris. We wish to have a relaxed holiday in Paris. Like say about 10 to 14 days. Will that be sufficient? We travel from Abu Dhabi to Charles de Gaulle airport. We had booked for Ibis hotels near Eiffel tower. What is the cheapest mean of transport in Paris and how can we reach to our hotel from airport and which route should be opt. What is the best means of transport to see the cities sights. Is walking helpful in cities, should kids require buggies. Is there good Indian restaurant around Paris Eiffel tower. What are the must watch and must do things in Paris. What is best entertainment for kids and how and which option to go for that. Which is the best map of Paris. I hope the people in Paris will help us if we lost the way or wish to enquire about any way in Paris. What if we or kids’ fall sick. Which is the nearest hospital we can approach. As a traveler can we visit hospitals and consult doctor in Paris. How will be the climate in Paris during July to December. Which is the best time to visit Paris and we prefer a time with not much crowd. What are the best neighbouring countries or cities we could visit and what transport should we take for this. What are the attraction at those places. Is there any good website which give more information on Paris and how to travel etc. Please help

Resolved Question: What are the ethical guidelines for refiling your soda at a fast food restaurant?

I'm in college, and at my college there is a Sbarros that sells sodas that you can refill at the soda machine. Being a caffeine needy student as I am, I often buy one such soda and refill it many times, but recently, I have come to wonder up to what point is it ethical to to refill your cup. In general I think that we could say that it is OK to refill your cup as many times as you want so long as you're in the restaurant, and that it would not be OK to take your cup with you when you leave and bring it back a couple of days later to refill it, but following are a couple of scenarios that I'm not sure about. 1) Prolonged stay: On most nights, I study at the food court where the Sbarro is located, so what I do is that I buy the cup of soda when I get there and then refill it many many times. Often I stay there for five or six hours, is this still ethical? 2) Sharing: I usually study with friends, and what we do is that we buy one cup for each flavor we want. Usually it turns out that we buy about one cup for every two of us. Are we sinning to do this? 3) Bringing back the cup on the same day: As I mentioned earlier, I often stay at Sbarros for five or six hours. However, there are other times when I am thirsty and buy a soda, but then have to quickly leave to go to class. Because I know that I will come back to sbarros to study later, I have sometimes stored the cup in my backpack and used it when I came back a couple of hours later. This is one of the trickier ones, because it could be considered more lie cheating. On the other hand however, in terms of how much soda I consume per cup bought, this scenario doesn't really differ from the previous ones. What concerns me the most here is not the evaluation of each case per se. I am interested in knowing what guiding principle or moral value should be the standard to judge all ambiguous cases of soda ethics. That is, what is the rationale behind whatever verdict you place on my three cases? I think we should consider at the same time that there is no written or explicit instructions on how to use the soda machine. It doesn't seem obvious theft in any case because there is no sign saying that any of these cases is prohibited, but so long as there is not, it opens the door for people to abuse of their soda privileges...

Resolved Question: Should I move back to Australia or stay in Japan?

I have previously lived in Japan on a working holiday visa for 1.5 years, I was living in Hokkaido working as a rafting guide in summer and then a Hotel in Winter and also a small seaside resort in the final summer I was there. Learned a fair amount of Japanese had a good time however the living and working arrangements were rather special and more of a one off situation. Moved back to Australia once my visa ran out, got a job in a Japanese restaurant on the goldcoast where I met my Japanese girlfriend. Asked her to marry me but she said I need to meet her parents first so we flew back to Japan about 4 days ago. Her parents gave us their blessing and we are now in the process of getting everything organized to get married and I will try to get a spouse visa whilst I am here. The idea of living in Japan again is starting to get appealing and I have been thinking over my options. I am fully aware that the only viable job option would be to teach English and be treated like dirt unless I learn kanji and improve my japanese to at least lvl 2 A close friend of mine has been teaching for about 2 years and is planning to move back to Australia with his Japanese wife and child. Seeing as I will be able to get a spouse visa and all ready have good Japanese speaking skills and know what to expect from living in Japan. Should I try to learn kanji and get my Japanese skills up to scratch and live life as a foreigner or should I move back to Australia?

Resolved Question: Whats your best Toronto?

Im from London and when people ask me what to do in London i tell them to get pie n mash with jellied eels from a real London place with real Londoners. These places are very rare and very traditional but not very well known. Alot of Londoners dont know about them. Real Londoners have been eating it for 100's of years. Its more traditional than what you get told to eat in a guide book like fish n chips or some bollocks like that. What i want from you Torontonians (is that what your called?) is to tell me your best bar, cafe and eating place (restaurant or food cart) also if you got any other great tip let me know please. Oh and dont just put a link to some trip planning web site cos its you real Toronto places i want. Real back ally bars and unknown gems. Thanks

Resolved Question: Why are some African-Americans afraid of dogs?

I raise a labrador for the Guide Dog Foundation. And the dog comes with me everywhere- in stores, restaurants, etc. I'd estimate that 7-out-of-10 blacks who encountered my dog have displayed outright fear and panic. They flailed their arms and screamed when they saw her, some even jumping backwards. To date, no whites have shown this behavior, or any fear for that manner. Maybe someone can offer insight? This is not meant to offend. It's just an observation, and I'm sure there is a cultural explanation.

Resolved Question: Tipping in Japan, Tour Guides and Bus Drivers?

I am going with a tour group to Japan, the website recommends tipping the guide and bus driver a certain amount for each day. The company even gives us little envelopes to put the tip in. As I have been researching for my trip, I am finding that tipping can cause offense. Is there an exception for tour groups? Please do not tell me about restaurants, bell boys, and taxi cabs, I already know they do not expect tips. I just need to know specifically about tour groups. Thank you. The envelopes are to be used to give the money directly to the tour guide and driver, not to the company. I am using Go Ahead Tours which has tours around the world, so I imagine the envelopes are generic.

Resolved Question: Memorable food experiences?

When I was 14, I ate at a Guide Michelin 3 star restaurant in Southern France. It was a meal I will never forget, and it ended with a desert that I have spent the rest of my life trying to duplicate. It was a chocolate mousse with orange peels marinated in orange liqueur, and I can still imagine it. Well, it's probably grown in my imagination. Anyway -- food, conversation, setting. I don't care. It doesn't have to be the best, but just really memorable to you. Describe it fulsomely, and tell us why it stays with you so strongly.

Voting Question: i had this weird dream?

i was at a place that couldnt tell where i was or why i was there but i was with my family. first of all i went to a school of some sort and with a couple of students and studying on something. while i was studying, i saw some lever or switch and when i did i was sent flying and almost landed in a stretcher of some sort but missed it and landed on the grass anyways and skidding as well. by the time i got up i went right back to studying with the others. later on, i got a ride from someone and i was guiding him to take me to a restaurant that my dad wanted to go. after a few messed up directions, i finally see my family waiting there for me. all of a sudden, he dropped me off in the middle of the street and looking to my right then i just ran i dive onto the sidewalk and skidded right next my dad. after that, my dad just pulled my ear hard. so, we went inside the restaurant and we are going to the second floor. right when we are going up i just hit my head on the ceiling and saying "why is it so small to walk into?" (i just saw like a small entry to where the tables were.) so i mannage to get in and eat with my parents. so does anyone know what my dream means?

I have an exam Monday and am doing prep homework, I am down to the last question on the study guide, and was doing great till now. I think I am supposed to calculate something then use the Standard probabilities table to figure something out?? Ugh. Please help me understand. THank you so much! :o) You operate a restaurant. You read that a sample survey by the National Restaurant Association shows that 40% of adults are commited to eating nutritious food when eating away from home. To help plan your menu, you decide to conduct a sample survey in your own area. You will use random digit dialing to contact an SRS of 200 households by phone. You find 100 of your 200 respondents concerned about nutrition. What is the probability that X is 100 or larger if p=0.4 is true?

Resolved Question: How do I find the best doctor?

I am looking for a doctor (a plastic surgeon) in New York, as I wish to have a minor procedure done on somehting on my skin that has bothered me for years. Obviously I want a good doctor, if not the best doctor. There are so many doctors and so much info it is so hard to know who is best and who to go to. So, I am looking for some sort of guide to help. For example, for restaurants, there is the Zagat Rated Guide and I believe a Michelin guiide ... Is there a guide to plastic surgeons? A web-site? A book/manuel? Anything that you know of/recomend? Thanks in advance.
